PokerStars is not merely a name in this globally acclaimed poker industry anymore, it has emerged as a widespread brand orchestrating a handful of live tours all across the globe and has come far in prominence since its arrival. Just another The Stars Group managed website has now blossomed into the largest online poker site in the world, controlling more than two-thirds of the whole online poker market.
Their distinctly special aura is however not confined to the outer bounds of India only, but, it thrusts out in the country as well with their PokerStars.in platform. The website organizes a plethora of tournaments, inclusive of Spin & Go, Daily Bigs, Hot Turbos and many more. In addition to all that they have in their arsenal, not long ago, they disclosed yet another feature on their site for the very first time, the Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) Leader Board, guaranteeing an aggregate of ₹ 5 Lakhs each month.
Players constituting the MTT Leader Board will be accorded with rewards on the basis of their performance that will be assessed in the span starting from 00:00 IST on the first day of the month and ending at 23:59 IST on the last day of the month. Players who will be concluding their run at regular MTT within the top 15% will be awarded Tournament Leader Board (TLB) points. These awarded TLB points will be dependent on various elements including the buy-in of the tournament, the number of players playing the tournament and naturally the finishing position of the player. When all is said and done, the top 20 best tournament performances of a player during a particular month will be taken into consideration to determine the final rank. The guarantee of a whopping amount of ₹ 5 Lakhs will relatively be distributed among the top 20 players ranked on the leaderboard. However, the player transcending everyone else and finishing first will secure a significant sum of ₹ 1.10 Lakh for his or her superlative run.
It was not a long while ago that PokerStars introduced the Diwali Rush on their website in October which also marked their very first strive in the direction of orchestrating any such sort of tournament series in India. Answering to all their endeavors and prayers, the Main Event of the series proved to be a paramount success, enticing an aggregate of 501 entries and creating a prize pool of ₹ 35+ Lakhs. Joey Saha while vanquishing the opponents claimed the tournament title, eventually taking the winning amount of more than ₹ 6 Lakhs.
Acknowledging the queries in regard to the growth of PokerStars in the Indian market, the CEO of The Stars Group, Rafi Ashkenazi asserted “It’s very premature days for India yet. To a certain extent it would not be wrong to say that the product is not really ready in full for the market. There still are a few facets that we need to – a few gaps that we still need to put an end to before we begin with our marketing campaign, apparently in Q4, more towards Q4 of this year. You can call it a soft launch that we are emphasizing on in India currently where we will steadily increase focus on this market presumably starting in Q4.”
This feature gives the impression of PokerStars looking to be orchestrating vigorous plans for their further penetration into the Indian online poker market, which as of now has a few extremely talented and string players on the helm for quite some time now.
One thing to be carefully noted is that, the satellite tournaments, heads-up tournaments, restricted entry tournaments, Sit & Go tournaments comprising players in numbers less than 40, shootout tournaments, play money tournaments, Stars Rewards Freerolls and private tournaments are not considered while determining the rankings.

How Does PokerStars Tournament Ranking System work?
The Top 15% of finishers in each Pokerstarts tournament will receive points at the PokerStars Monthly Tournament LeaderBoard standings, based on the number of entrants, tournament buy-in, and place of finish.
The formula used to determine the total points awarded to a player (in the top 15% of finishers) for any given tournament is:
Points = 10 * [sqrt(n)/sqrt(k)] * [1+log(b+0.25)]
n is the number of entrants
k is the place of finish (k=1 for the first-place finisher, and so on)
b is the buy-in amount in INR (excluding entry fee). For freerolls the buy-in is Rs. 0, and for FPP tournaments 1 FPP is counted as Rs. 0.0161.
Above formula is designed and considered in PokerStars Tournaments Ranking System to reward performance and frequent play.
